From stone to a scene

Photogrammetry & Blender

A study in bringing an architectural detail into 3D with photogrammetry. These images follow the relief from its textured surface to the underlying geometry, then into a repeating arrangement in Blender.

An ornate stone relief with figures and foliage inside a circular medallion, surrounded by a rectangular moulded frame.
The textured relief, seen straight on.

The shape beneath the surface

With the texture hidden, the raised details and depth of the reconstructed geometry become easier to see.

The relief shown as pale, untextured geometry at an angle in the Blender viewport.

Back in Blender

An angled view of the textured model, showing the surface detail together with the depth of the panel.

The textured stone panel tilted in the Blender viewport, with its carved details and projecting frame visible.

One detail, repeated

An array modifier test, repeating the panel to explore how a single captured detail could become part of a larger scene.

Five copies of the textured relief arranged in a horizontal row, receding into the distance.
